OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos
Rotary Club Of Eleko Golden in partnership with Rotary District 9112 and the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, has successfully returned 500 out of School Children to schools in Mushin and Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Areas of Lagos State.
The project which aligns with Rotary International's Seven Areas of Focus on Basic Education and Literacy 2024-2025, was carried out in two phases in the Months of January and February.
According to Rotarian Roseline Tombia (PHF), the Irresistible President of Rotary Club of Eleko Golden, "The first edition of the project was held on January 20, at the NUT Hall SUBEB Office, Mushin LGA Secretariat and at Lai Oyekanmi Primary School, Mushin, located on No. 1, Idowu Omolodu Street,.Lagos, while the second edition took place on the February 5, at the NUT Hall, Ajeromi Ifelodun LGA, Oja Bus Stop, MBA Oregie Road, Ajegunle, Lagos State.
"The project aims at increasing access to education and promote sustainable development, hence the District's support for out-of-school children in returning to education by providing educational materials and resources." She added.
Rotarian Roseline stressed that the project successfully supported out-of-school children in returning them to the path of having basic education, promoting sustainable development and community growth.
The Irresistible President acknowledged the selfless supports of the Club members, particularly the effort and contribution of Rotarian Dr. Kester Awani, the Foundation Chair of Eleko Golden, saying, "their collaborative efforts earned the project a Certificate of Recognition and to the Club by extension."
Subsequently the Club also partnered with the Rotary Action Group for Family Health and Aids Prevention with the supports of Bill and Mellinda Gates Foundation to partake in the Annual Free Nationwide Health Service that was tagged: Rotary Family Health Days of February 13, at Bogije Health Centre, Ibeju, Lekki.
According to Rotarian Roseline, the first edition was held when the club was not chartered but participated in this year's edition as a Chartered Club, stressing that the project provided access to health services for underserved communities, promoting health awareness education and fostering community awareness.
She added that the club carried out health screenings which included; blood pressure test, glucose test, Malaria screening treatment, deworming of children, dental care among others in line with Rotary's Seven Areas of Focus on Disease Prevention and Control.
"The Rotary Family Health Days (RFHD) was a success because of our partnership with the District that was instrumental in making this project possible, enabling us to provided essential health services and promoted health awareness to the community. " She said.
