As Christians across the globe mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ through the Easter celebrations on Sunday, the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) popularly known as KAI has sued for renewed environmental consciousness and appropriate waste disposal among Lagos residents during and after the Easter festivities in the State on Sunday.
This was contained in the statement made available to the press by the Corps Marshal of the Agency, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (rtd) at the Agency’s Command Headquarters, Bolade-Oshodi. According to him, ‘‘Easter is a significant festivity that is regarded by Christians as it marks the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and as we mark Easter, we are advised to emulate the values of Jesus Christ, be intentionally conscious about our environment and dispose our refuse appropriately via approved-PSPs”.
Cole also read the riot act to street traders to desist from the illegal act of improper waste disposal, street trading, erection of illegal structures on road setbacks, lay-bys, kerbs, medians, verges, gutter slabs which contravenes the State Environmental Protection laws, just as he stated that apprehended defaulters will be prosecuted by a competent court of jurisdiction.
The KAI top man also re-iterated the need for commuting Lagos residents to embrace safety when crossing major highways via the appropriate usage of strategically-erected pedestrian bridges to mitigate the scourge of ‘hit and run’ incidents by speeding motorists.
Major Cole finally disclosed that operatives of the Agency will remain at their duty posts to deter environmental defaulters and make necessary arrests, stressing the dedication of the Agency towards making Lagos cleaner and habitable for business as enshrined in the THEMES+ agenda of Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
