The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, has bolstered its efforts at promoting Safety on Ogun roads by blocking a wide illegal turning point on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, positioned directly opposite the Nigerian Brewery gate and adjacent to its official Bus Stop in Ota, Ogun State.
Officers of the Agency led by Cdr. Victoria Olaoke, Divisional Commander, Ota Division on Thursday stormed the spot with moulded road dividers to block the wide illegal turning point that was reported to cause many crashes, traffic impediments on the highway and a great pain to the large number of Logistic trucks servicing the Brewery.
Speaking with DAILY INDEPENDENT on behalf of Cdr. Seni Ogunyemi, TRACE Commander General/CEO, Cdr. Victoria said, "Our Agency had received several complaints from the motoring public and particularly from the Nigerian Brewery, reporting the fallbacks of the illegal turning point, throwing up the need to block it.
"Our Commander General and CEO, Cdr. Ogunyemi therefore gave the order for us to do the needful prompting, Cdr. Ajibade Adekunle, the Area Commander to mobilise resources and support in getting moulded road dividers hereby used to block the illegal U-Turn. It is therefore illegal for anyone to remove the road dividers or for any vehicle or truck to be found using this point for turning anymore." She said.
An official of the Nigerian Brewery who spoke with DAILY INDEPENDENT on condition of anonymity said, the blocking of the illegal U-Turn is a welcomed development, stressing that trucks servicing their Company have had hard times navigating in and out of the company because of the traffic bottlenecks associated with the illegal turnings at the place.
The official also spoke about the high number of crashes caused by the illegality perpetrated there, stating that the moulded dividers hitherto erected on the spot were forcefully broken by street urchins and undesirable elements who take advantage of the traffic snarl caused by the vehicles turning illegally to extort truck drivers, commercial vehicle operators and to rob innocent passengers at night.
As at the time of leaving the scene of the blockage, traffic movement has eased up and you could see motorists hailing the effort of the TRACE officials, calling on them to sustain the closure of the illegal turning to enhance the free flow of traffic and safety.
