LASTMA Officer Faces Amputation After Being Hit By Negligent Trailer Driver

A Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officer who sustained fractures in his right leg and hand after being hit by a negligent trailer driver will have his leg amputated.

The LASTMA officer, whose identity was withheld by the agency, was on his way to commence his afternoon duty when he encountered this unfortunate incident at the Ojodu Berger axis of Lagos.

The driver was coming from Agidingbi by Oba Ogunji Road en route to Omole Junction in the Ogba corridor and was driving at a high speed, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. This resulted in a road crash.

According to the agency, the vehicle involved in the accident bears Bauchi State registration number KTG 33 ZZ.

The LASTMA officer was admitted to the Surgical Emergency Centre of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

Specialists who attended to him said the extent of the injuries necessitated an immediate amputation of his right leg.

To evade justice, the trailer driver absconded from the scene of the accident but was apprehended by security operatives from the Ojodu Police Station and LASTMA officials.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condemned the reckless driving of the negligent driver and wished the injured LASTMA officer a speedy recovery.

He said, “LASTMA officers are not adversaries to motorists; rather, they are dedicated to ensuring that traffic flows seamlessly, thereby fostering economic growth and urban efficiency in Lagos State.”
