Rotary Club Of Lekki-Novare Pushes Charity Services To Host Communities

OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos

Rotarian Gloria Onu, Irresistable President, Rotary Club of Lekki Novare in a Media parley on Monday, gave account of Charity projects and programmes executed by the Club to host communities in the Lekki-Ajah axis in accordance to the Rotary Club International Seven Areas of Focus.

Rotarian Onu at the Press briefing stated that On Thursday, 15th August, 2024, the Club extended their charity work to Eti-Osa Maternal and Child Health Center, Abraham Adesanya,

Ogombo, Lekki , Lagos, where they distributed treated mosquito nets and birth kits to Pregnant women in line with the Rotary International Maternal and  Child care Area of Focus.

According to her, "a total of 40 pregnant Mothers and new born babies were gifted, leaving them excited and appreciative of the kind gesture.

Rtn. Onu said, "The donation by the club is based on an earlier need assessment report on the Primary Health Centre to ascertain what could be done to improve health deliveries to patients, coupled with the fact that, one of the Areas of Focus of Rotary International is Maternal and Child Health."

Adding, “The other Areas of Focus in Rotary International, are; Peace & Conflict Prevention, Basic Education & Literacy, Disease Prevention & Treatment, Water Sanitation & Hygiene, Community Economic Development, Support the Environment with Maternal and Child Health.

"In Lekki Novare Rotary Club, we decided however to reach out to the primary health Centre supporting it with equipment and medical accessories that will help mothers and foetus during pregnancy and Child birth.

“We also realised that child mortality is high in developing countries, prompting Rotary to take up the challenge of reducing the mortality rate. So mothers can put to bed peacefully and safely."

"The Club equally made donation of 50 booklets of Dictionaries to Okun Ajah Community Secondary School’s Library on Thursday October 10, 2024, she said.

"This is to promote readership among the students, recall their is a decline in the level readership, leading to abysmal performance in examinations. Also, there are English words that many are not conversant with or understand their meanings."

Rtn. Onu stressed that the same School was revisited by the Club on Tuesday, November 26, to carry out 'the Girl Child Initiative' at the Okun Ajah Community Secondary School where Sanitary pads were distributed to about 360 students, to improve sanitation, well being and emotional stability of the Girl child."

She reiterated the Club's commitment and hers as the Current President to keep executing such programmes in line with the mandate of the Rotary Club International, with the goal of uplifting the living standard of community dwellers.

She recalled, “Rotary Club of Lekki Novare was chartered about four years ago and has being making amazing impacts in the lives of people in the surrounding Communities, asserting that myself with my team members are working passionately, touching lives of people in our immediate communities.
